25.02.02-Ananova-U2 win Best Live Act

The Strokes have dominated the NME Carling Awards with three honours.

Kylie Minogue was named Best Pop Act and The Charlatans won two awards.

U2, Radiohead, Missy Elliott, Ash, Basement Jaxx, the Lostprophets and Ian Brown were also winners.

New York band The Strokes won Album Of The Year, Best New Act and Band Of The Year.

U2 won Best Live act for their Elevation Tour. They were unable to attend this year's ceremony, but sent an acceptance video which included a live performance of The Ramones' Beat On The Brat.

The Charlatans received a new award presented for their Outstanding Contribution to NME and the Best Radio 1 Evening Session.

Missy Elliott won in the Best Hip Hop/Rap Act category and Mis-teeq collected the Best R&B Soul Award on behalf of the late Aaliyah. They will present the award to her family in New York during their forthcoming US tour.

Radiohead picked up the Best Music Video award for Pyramid Song video and Ash won the Single of the Year. Basement Jaxx were Best Dance Act, the Lostprophets Best Metal Act and Ian Brown Best Solo Artist.

The God Like Genius award was jointly presented to rock photographer Pennie Smith and former NME journalist Nick Kent.

Smith's shot of The Clash's Paul Simonon smashing his guitar was recently voted the best rock 'n' roll photograph of all time.
